Hitting the Road

The Titans hit the road for a 10-day road trip in this preseason, with back-to-back joint training camp practices – and then games – in Tampa, Fla., and then Atlanta, Ga. Coach Brian Callahan envisioned a bonding experience for the team, and that’s what he saw unfold over the course of the trip. The trip took a lot of planning. In fact, the team’s operations staff began preparing for the trip back in March. There were adjustments along the way, of course, leading up to, and during the trip.

Trucks

A regular season road trip keeps the guys at VIP Moving and Storage busy. A road trip that included two cities, three joint practices and two games was a totally different matter. The trucks traveled from Nashville to Tampa, then to Atlanta, before returning to Nashville to cap off the long trip. Everywhere the team went, the necessary items and equipment were there waiting. The team used three different equipment trucks for the trip.

Team Operations

The trip included three flights, three different hotels, and plenty of ground transportation as well. A total of 16 police escorts coordinated movements along the way.

On the trip, 225 players, coaches and team personnel spent 10 days and nine nights in three different hotels, all while delivering the highest care and comfort to the athletes.

The Equipment

It was an action-packed trip for everyone, including the equipment managers. Not only did the Titans need to get geared up for practices, laundry needed to be done several times a day. With three practices, multiple walk throughs, and two games, there was plenty to do – and not much down time.

IT support

Taking the show on the road presented some unique challenge for the team’s IT department. In all the hotels, the IT team built a wireless network infrastructure to make the transitions as seamless as possible. In Tamps and Atlanta, the goal was to make team personnel feel like things worked as smoothly as they doat Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Team Dieticians

Keeping an NFL team fed – and eating well – is no easy task. On the trip, players and staff had breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks ready for them around the clock. The means were coordinated by the team’s dieticians, who regularly aim to help players maintain optimum weight and nutrition at home or on the road.

Athletic Trainers

Recovery, and care, doesn’t take a day off in the NFL. The players need to feel their best to perform well, and the training staff did its part to manage care around the clock for the team. The operation was on full display in the hotels, and at the training facilities in Tampa and Atlanta.

Headed Home

Coach Callahan and the Titans of Tennessee considered the 10-day trip a success, with the payoff coming during the season. The trip helped unite a team during the grind of the preseason.
