Mention Derrick Henry, and that fierce stiff-arm immediately comes to mind. Henry has utilized it during his playing days at Yulee High, the University of Alabama, and in the NFL, with the Titans.
It was on full display in Atlanta in Week 4, when Henry reached the 100-yard mark for the first time this season. It was a sign of things to come.
Henry is also known for his work ethic. Follow him on social media and youβll find posts of him working out at all hours of the day. Heβs a beast in the weight room, and on the practice field. His 6-foot-3, 247-pound frame is easy to spot.
Off the field, Henry has shown a big heart. In 2019, Henry launched his Two All Foundation, which was created to level the playing field for todayβs youth. During the NFLβs My Cause My Cleats campaign, Henryβs cause was his Two All Foundation. The butterfly on Henry's cleats also paid tribute to his late grandmother, who loved butterflies. At the start of the school year, Henry helped with a shopping spree for teachers as well as a back-to-school shopping spree for children. On Sunday in Houston, he went out of his way to spend time with a fan battling cancer.Β Β
If you havenβt noticed, Henry knows how to dress. Whether itβs on an airport runway boarding the plane, or in a post-game press conference, he makes a fashion statement. Look good, play good, right?
What Henry wants most is to represent well when he puts on the No.22. On game day, heβs locked in. On rare occasions, you might see him crack a smile in pregame, but it doesnβt happen often. Heβs usually reppinβ the game face.
Henry picked up steam in the second half of the 2019 season, and he led the NFL with a career-high 1,540 rushing yards, averaging 149.3 rushing yards over his last six games with 10 rushing touchdowns in that span. Henry finished the year with six 100-yard games, including a 211-yard, three touchdown performance in the regular season finale against the Texans.
Henry topped his memorable season off with an exclamation point. With the Titans leading 28-14, Henry busted up the middle before cutting to his right. He made a beeline to the end zone, and when he was done his 53-yard touchdown had assured the Titans of a playoff berth while giving him the NFLβs rushing title. It set off a wild celebration on the field, and the sideline.
Henryβs work in 2019 might be done, but as the calendar flips to 2020, the Titans are ready to ride with Derrick into the postseason. Next up is a playoff game, on Saturday against the Patriots. All aboard El Tractorcito!
